The Big Question is what went wrong? Why did Rick Perry drop out? No one really knows. What we do know is that he is throwing his voters Gingrich's way. Sunday morning comes up with their five reasons Rick Perry dropped out on Thursday.
*1. They believe he was not ready for the prime time.
" The Texas governor entered the presidential race in August as the biggest threat to Mitt Romney, a longtime governor of a job-rich state who could raise oodles of money and unite the Tea Party and evangelical base with the establishment." He started off good but he could not stand the lime light. When he debated Perry sort of looked like a deer caught in headlights.
*2. Old scandels came back to haunt him:
Perry signed a executive order mandating middle school girls to get the HPV test. This does not sit well with his concervative followers and Michele Bachmann made sure he did not live it down. This hurt him with the voters he actually counted on.
*3. Paid media did not do the job:
He spent a great deal on ads in Iowa and it did not help him at all. He finished in fifth despite the time and money he put into the media.
*4. Focus on social issues did not pay off:
Gingrich put so much emphasis on social issues and it failed. The people cared more about the economy than social issues. I guess that he did not check his issues polls.
*5. Campaign disarray:
Perry never declared his identity in the race. His personal camp was a big mess. His camp was not doing what they should have been. They didnt send out messages really and tell him how to deal with attacks.
If Rick Perry came back in four years with a better team and organization he could have a chance.

Gingrich: S.C. primary is 'crossroads'(video)
Usa TodayJan. 11, 2012
RockHill, South Carolina
Gingrich says that as a country we need to be honest about where we are and the real problems of America and the people. Gingrich says that this South Carolina primary is the crossroad in the race. He is going to let the people decide what kind of leader they want. He believes that they need to pick a republican candidate that can actually stand a chance against Obama. Gingrich believes that he is the opnly candidate who can win against Obama. He believes that Romney does not have the experience or the backbone to run against Obama. Gingich also believes that his fellow candidates have very similar views to Obama so that would have no sense for them to run against him because Obama will automatically win. If the people wanted the same thing as before Obama is a good choice. Gingrich believes that is a bad choice. Gingrich believes that in order to put America back on the map as the superpower that we are we need leaders with backbones and who are ready top make change. Also let they people stand on their own too feet and not always relying on the government for financial help. So I wonder if Gingirch does not win here in South Carolina will he drop out too?

Gingrich is practically begging for votes now. His speech on his newer videos seem like he was pleading with the people to please vote for him, he seems very desperate. He also told the people of Miami to ask his fellow candidates questions. He especially challenged Romney records, he wants romney to show all his facts. Gingrich also told the people of Miami to question them on their facts of immigration and deporting rules. Gingrich says that fellow candidates wish to deport grand parents and great grandparents without a care in the world. He says he fellow candidates wish to break up happy families. Gingrich also asked the people to ask his fellow candidates when they come to Miami about their lies and how they switch what they say with every different state they go too. Gingrich also goes on to make a joke that when they answer their nose might grow right in front of the Miami people

Huntsman to quit GOP race(video)
USA TodayJanuary 15, 2012
As of yesterday Utah governor Jon Huntsman dropped out of the GOP race. But he will officially state this on Monday. He had come up 3rd and 5th and his previous caucus polls today and he feels he will not have a chance in the election going further. Jon could not believe he pulled out all of his stops in New Hampshire and still came up short in third place. Jon felt that he put a great deal of his resources into New Hampshire and if he could win anywhere it would have been there. But again, he was not successful. So when they travel to South Carolina while there he will endorse Mitt romney in public at the caucus.

Santorum and Gingrich Pounce on Romney(video)
Wall Street JournalJanuary 8, 2012
At the New Hampshire Republican presidential debate on Saturday Rick Santorum, and Newt Gingrich criticized Republican front-runner Mitt Romney over his business experience. In the debate Santorum and ginrich both teamed upduring this debate and said that romney has little business experience and that America will be in trouble if he is leading our country. They believe Romney is not the right one to have America's life in his hands. They say he has yet to really do anything important business wise and he is not ready to take on such a "business venture" like this one. He also makes money by putting people out ofbusiness and that is exactly the opposite of what America need. If anything America needs for jobs, better leadership and people who care and will fight for whats best for America.

Republicans face off on the economy in N.H. (video)
Debate in Hanover, New Hampshire at Dartmouth College
Washington Post
The overall debate was about the economy and who should actually be taking the blame for the downfall of the economy. All of the candidates pointed fingers to Washington and none other than Obama himself as being the cause for our horrible economy. Also pointing some blame to the Federal Reserve and government in general. They say Obama is causing a decline in the economy instead of a increase, he also has too many regulations. Romey goes on to say“I have had the experience in my life of taking on some tough problems,” Romney said. “And I must admit that simple answers are always very helpful but oftentimes inadequate. And in my view, to get this economy going again, we’re going to have to deal with more than just tax policy and just energy policy, even though both of those are part of my plan”.Other candidates were very quite this debate but Rick Perry was especially quite and offered no specifics on his ideas on the economy and his energy plan he talks so much about. The overall setting of the debate was intimate and a round table discussion between the candidates. With Romney being the front runner of the debate as of now he was the target of the night. But he was very confident and cool during the debate, he took what was dished out and rolled with the punches. He answered every question very politically correct not only from his fellow candidates but also from the moderators.

Gingrich to Romney: Drop the "pious baloney"
By: Lucy Madison
Sunday Morning
January 8, 2012 9:46 AM
Sunday morning a Republican debate was held and right off the bat Gingrich came swinging at Romney. The reason Gingrich says for attacking Romney is "pious baloney" regarding his motives for running for office and his political history. Gingrich attacked Romney the whole debate from his previous running of senator and his dropping out. Also, going as far to say that Romney should not win GOP because he and Obama have too many similar views. Gingrich believes that if someone is to win against Obama they need to be completely different. In his exact words "The fact is, President Obama is going to have a very hard re-election effort. But I do think the bigger the contrast, the bolder ideas, the clearer the choice, the harder it is for that billion-dollar campaign to smear his way back into office," Gingrich said. "I think he will have a very hard time getting re- elected -- getting elected."
romney:"citizenship has always been on my mind" and that he's not running for president to "pay a mortgage" but out of civic duty. Gingrich also says that Romney is only running not because he cares about the people of America but because he is looking to further is career nd looking for a way to pay his mortgage. In response to Gingrich, Romney states "I happened to see my dad run for governor when he was 54-years-old. He had good advice to me. He said, Mitt, never get involved in politics if you have to win an election to pay a mortgage. If you find yourself in a position where you can serve, well you ought to have a responsibility to do so, if you think you can make a difference." During the debate when Gingrich was not going off, Santorum was trying to put his two cents in. Santorum believes that Romney is not a good front runner for the GOP because he never finishes anything he starts. Santorum says that he is the best candidate to run for "the conservative principles". Santorum says the only thing Romney is good at , is to "bail out" and "run to the left of Ted Kennedy". Lets see how Romney can spin all the negative press he is getting before the New Hampshire caucus.

Santorum, Romney challenged on gay rights in debate

The two front runners of the Iowa Caucus were questioned on their views of Gay rights. Romney says "I think the gay community needs more support from the Republican party,"and "But if people are looking for someone who will discriminate against gays... or say they don't have full rights in this country, they won't find that from me," he said. . Romeny goes further to state that he has also hired people of various sexual orientation because what they do in thier spare time does not matter as long as it does not interfer with his work. Only thing Romeny does not think is okay is that same-sex marriage is not okay ever. Santorum was asked if he supported gay rights he said "All Americans should he treated equally and have equal opportunity. Romney and Santorum both are bascially supporting gay rights in one way or another. In my opinion I would have thought that neither of the republican front runners would have supported gay rights. One side of me believes that they are only being "okay" with gay people because they want all the votes they can get. But on the other hand they might lose some of the republican conservatives who got them to the place they are now. So at the New Hampshire caucus we will see if them saying this will hurt or help them.

Gingrich Steps Up Attacks in N.H.
The Wall Street JournalThe Washington Wire
By Douglas Belkin

Newt Gingrich thought he should add a twist to his campaign speech this morning by attacking President Obama! Gingrich throws a jab at the president because he said Obama is not abiding by the constitution. Gingrich says that Obama is making decisions and not even consulting the senators. Obama met with National Labor Relations Board and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau which was wrong in Gingrich's eyes without consulting another party. Gingrich even went further to say that “If the president can walk across the U.S. Constitution and ignore the Senate, you have an imperial presidency,” and that He is paying off his union allies. This has nothing to do with good government and everything to do with re-election.” I believe Gingrich no he has no chance of winning this election so he is trying to throw dirt on everyone else's campaign since he is unhappy. This also does not make him look like a good candidate because a week or so earlier in the race when his name was being thrown in the dirty that was something that he said he was above. Also, during this speech Gingrich said he needs to be the Republican candidate to go against Obama because he is the only one who can beat the president in a debate. Gingrich also is taking his turn to throw dirt on Romney's name. Gingrich is not in the position to come at Romney when he did not even place before third place. Gingrich says romney is a " Massachusetts moderate who regularly caved in to liberal interests". Also, you can tell Gingrich is a flip flopper. When Santorum came in second Gingrich gave him praise, but Thursday he said Santorum is beneath him as far as experience. Gingrich went from the front runner to being desperate.

Romney, Santorum on top as GOP race shifts to New Hampshire
By the CNN Wire Staff (John King)

Wed January 4, 2012
This article talked about the overall results in the Iowa caucus last night. Romney took the win last night with 8 votes over Santorum. Ron Paul ended up coming in thrid place while Gingrich trailed behind at fourth place. Then last but not least Bachmann snails behind in fifth place. As a result of this caucus, a great deal has changed for the GOP. Bachmann announced that she will not venture on to New Hampshire because she was counting on the votes from Iowa. she believes that her hometown has spoken and she will listen and not continue on and embarrass herself any further. Also, Romney gained the support of his old rival McCain. McCain believes that Romney is the right leader America need to but us back in history a noble force. Perry also announced via twitter that he would stay in the race and continue to New Hampshire and South Carolina. Santorum also shares with CNN that be is a little behind the ball compared to Romney. He believes this because Romney has spent a great deal of money and time in New Hampshire, but he is reaady for the challenge. Last but not least Gingrich is on a rampage for Romney, saying that he spent a great deal of money for negative ads against him, so from now on Gingrich is on a war path. But until next time for our New Hampshire caucus.

How Rick Santorum’s Old-School Politicking Is Paying Off in Iowa
By: Alex Altman
Time Magazine
December 30, 2011
Des Moines, Iowa
Rick Santorum may have been quiet and not heard from in a lot in these debates, but that is because he has been doing what will get him atleast second place. Rick may not have the highest paid people backing his campaign but sometimes money is everything. Rick has been putting in a great deal of time in Iowa. Rick went down there when no other candidate was present and he just talked to the people of Iowa. Guess what? Rick has went up 11% since he has been spending a little extra time there. They say he is right on the tails of Ron Paul and Mitt Romney. Some even say that he took Ron Paul's number two spot and that his percentage will slowly but surely increase. People are comparing Rick's increase in supporters similar to Huckabee's. Only difference is, is that most Iowa does not believe that Rick has teh power and support yet to win in the caucus overall but he most likely will come in second place. What has also helped Rick is the supporters he has recieved lately, they have helped him run more ads being as though it is closer to caucus time. They say he got these supporters recently because of his faith and commitment to the caucus. But as of today this is what people have to say

Gingrich assails Romney for 'smear campaign'
Associated PressBy Shannon McCaffrey
Dec 20, 6:42 PM
Newt Gingrich is no longer so peaceful and calm. He is coming for Mitt Romney saying he is running a smeared campaign. Gingrich comes at Romney saying that he is contradicting himself claiming to be above this smear. But all the while Gingrich says "Understand, these are his people running his ads, doing his dirty work while he pretends to be above it,". At a machinery plant in Ottumwa, Iowa Gingrich said "I don't object to being outspent. I object to lies. I object to negative smear campaigns.". Although Gingrich is very upset but he said he will not break his promise to run a campaign that the people can be proud of.
He says he will remain relentlessly positive and remain his composure. He might say he is going to be the more mature candidate and take the higher road but that has not stopped him from talking. "I think these guys hire consultants who get drunk, sit around and write stupid ads," Gingrich replied. "Every one of these candidates should take responsibility for the lies they are putting up". .Romney has no plan to halt the attacks and slaundering of Gingrichs name, he said he has every right to run his campaign just like he is now.

Mr. Gingrich’s faulty judgment about the courts
Washington Post
Tuesday, December 20th
By: Editorial Board
"NEWT GINGRICH HAS a love-hate relationship with the Founding Fathers. He loves to cite them but hates to do so in context".
The Washington Post basically says how Gingrich is taking the law into his own hands. Gingrich is undermining the rule of law and what our judiciary system deals with everyday. He says as the president of the United States he will take it into his own hands to target particular judges and cancel certain courts; this is his form of liberal judiciary activism. He compares his thoughts to those of Thomas Jefferson in 1801. Thomas Jefferson when he became president worked with Capitol Hill to rework the judges. The difference between Gingrich and Jeffersons plan is very simple; Gingrich is eliminating judges to replace them with judges that have similar beliefs to Gingrichs. He would like to have his cabinet full of conservatives like himself. Gingrich does not like the California based federal system. A writer Matthew Fanck calls Gingrich a cheater, he is trying to get around that fact that you only impeach judges if they fail to serve "during good behavior".

"Paul Could Lead From Behind"
Wall Street Journal
December 13, 2011
By: Gerald F. Seib
In this Wall Street Journal, the election is taking a turn. Ron Paul may actually have a chance to place second in this Iowa and New Hampshire caucus coming up. Earlier in the election he had about 10% support. Recently , as Iowa polls come out Ron Paul has about 18% in the polls now. This is enough for him to compete for his spot in the number two spot. Paul also has a great advantage because most of his voters are very loyal. They are not just with him because they love him but because they love his ideas and his overall philosophy he believes in as a president.
A great deal of his followers believe in his views on religion. This is a hot button topic, so people who are big conservatives and traditionalist will side with him and try and get the religion back where they believe it should be. Romney and Paul are going to go head to head over the New Hampshire and Iowa caucus because the states they visit after those two are most likely going to be Gingrich's win because already they are backing him. So If Paul wants any chance he will have to go hard for his spot. It also might be benefical for Paul to let Romney and Gingrich air each others dirty laundry until they both eliminate themselves. He is also love for another one of his ideas which is to scale down on government. I wonder what will happen next week.

"Romney Warns of Nominating 'Zany' Gingrich,"
New York Times very own Jeff Zeleny and Ashley Parker interviewed Mitt Romney this previous Wednesday and he has a lot to say about one of his fellow presidential candidates. Gingrich seems to be the only person on the chopping block in his eye. This is to be expected since Gingrich is the leader according to polls, with only 20 days left until the Iowa caucus.
Mitt Romney say that Gingrich is "Zany" and highly discourages any republican to vote for him. Romney says in the article that “Zany is not what we need in a president. Zany is great in a campaign. It’s great on talk radio. It’s great in print, it makes for fun reading,”. Romney was basically coming at Gingrich and how he feels that he is unfit to handle the position of president. He also reassured the people of America that he is not out the election, and that his campaign is going well. He also goes along to say that hes glad that he did not do much press before this because now all eyes are on Gingrich and his wrongs. Romney hopes that he will earn the win of the early states such as Iowa and New Hampshire. The couple of articles I have read, including this one has showed me that Gingrich has no choice but to say on top of everything because every candidate is coming for his number one sop so i hope hes ready to take the trouble he has coming for him. We might find out something new about his past we did not know, this is around the time everything comes out.

Campaign Countdown: 24 Days Till Iowa
Campaign Countdown: 24 Days Till Iowa by Joe Klein in Time Magazine is basically the month kick off article to the New Hampshire and Iowa contests. Joe Klein talks about this being the most important and intense time of the presidential elections. Klein says this is about the time that everybody basically knows wo they are voting for but for the political geeks this is the time everyone gets excited for. This is the time that candidates go back and forth and try and throw any dirt they could conger
up on their opponent this is the time to expose it. According to Klein now that Hermain has dropped out of the election all eyes are on Gingrich because he currently has the number one spot, how is he going to react when the other candidates come for him. Klein says that Gingrich has been very calm and presidential so far, he says that he will continue to be that way he will not let the other candidates see hium sweat. But the insults have already started to roll in from candidates such as Ron Paul, Rick Perry and Mitt Romney. These insults have come in forms of television ads and hits during the debates. in this article Klein says that Perry, Paul and Romney have been coming at Gingrich the hardest. Paul says that he is corrupt and Perry and Romney are coming at him about is health insurance beliefs. Klein knows that they will all fight out their sides during this upcoming month. Klein is looking forward to the "Lincoln-Douglas" style debate most with Gingrich and Huntsman. So lets see what happens.

G.O.P. Debate Sets All Eyes on Gingrich
Today in the New York Times on page A1, Jeff Zeleny and Jim Rutenberg wrote an article on the G.O.P debate which was held in Des Moines. Newt Gingrich is the leader in the Republican polls according too Iowa and ABC polls. Even though Newt Gingrich is the top dog in polls he still has been recieving great criticism from his fellow Republican candidates. Gingrich has been put on under the spot light for numerous reasons. The first reason was about his numerous marriages and marital affairs which was news to me. Gingrich has been married three times and has admitted to affairs. The only thing Gingrich said was "In my case, I said up front openly, I’ve made mistakes at times. I’ve had to go to God for forgiveness. I’ve had to seek reconciliation.” Another heated topic is how Gingrich and Romney both back Obama's health care law saying that every person should have health care. Also, Gingrich was called an inconsistent conservative by Ron Paul saying he recieved 1.8 million dollars for advise for a government sponsered mortgage lender. Gingrich says "I offered strategic advise and I was in a private sector." There were two highlights of the night. The fist highlight was Gingrich and Romney being on stage debating together because just going back and forth. Romney seemed as thought he was coming for Gingrich, they argued on their very different leadership styles, views and backgrounds. The last hightlight of the night was when Romney put Gingrich on the spot about him calling "Palestinians were an invented people". In his defense he said "I was describing the Palestinian liberation movement as a historian, and that as a “Reaganite,”. Dont get me wrong even thought Gingrich took a lot of hits during this debate, he kept his cool. When his fellow candidates kept firing at him with questions he answered them calmly and with a smile, they never took him out of his character. In three weeks when Iowa caucuses opens we'll see if this debate hurts Gingrich's lead in republican polls.
