Rick Perry: What went wrong?

Sunday Morning NewsWritten by: Brian Montopoli
January 19, 2012 (5:34PM)

The Big Question is what went wrong? Why did Rick Perry drop out? No one really knows. What we do know is that he is throwing his voters Gingrich's way. Sunday morning comes up with their five reasons Rick Perry dropped out on Thursday.
*1. They believe he was not ready for the prime time.
" The Texas governor entered the presidential race in August as the biggest threat to Mitt Romney, a longtime governor of a job-rich state who could raise oodles of money and unite the Tea Party and evangelical base with the establishment." He started off good but he could not stand the lime light. When he debated Perry sort of looked like a deer caught in headlights.

*2. Old scandels came back to haunt him:
Perry signed a executive order mandating middle school girls to get the HPV test. This does not sit well with his concervative followers and Michele Bachmann made sure he did not live it down. This hurt him with the voters he actually counted on.

*3. Paid media did not do the job:
He spent a great deal on ads in Iowa and it did not help him at all. He finished in fifth despite the time and money he put into the media.

*4. Focus on social issues did not pay off:
Gingrich put so much emphasis on social issues and it failed. The people cared more about the economy than social issues. I guess that he did not check his issues polls.

*5. Campaign disarray:
Perry never declared his identity in the race. His personal camp was a big mess. His camp was not doing what they should have been. They didnt send out messages really and tell him how to deal with attacks.

If Rick Perry came back in four years with a better team and organization he could have a chance.

Gingrich: S.C. primary is 'crossroads'(video)

Usa TodayJan. 11, 2012
RockHill, South Carolina

Gingrich says that as a country we need to be honest about where we are and the real problems of America and the people. Gingrich says that this South Carolina primary is the crossroad in the race. He is going to let the people decide what kind of leader they want. He believes that they need to pick a republican candidate that can actually stand a chance against Obama. Gingrich believes that he is the opnly candidate who can win against Obama. He believes that Romney does not have the experience or the backbone to run against Obama. Gingich also believes that his fellow candidates have very similar views to Obama so that would have no sense for them to run against him because Obama will automatically win. If the people wanted the same thing as before Obama is a good choice. Gingrich believes that is a bad choice. Gingrich believes that in order to put America back on the map as the superpower that we are we need leaders with backbones and who are ready top make change. Also let they people stand on their own too feet and not always relying on the government for financial help. So I wonder if Gingirch does not win here in South Carolina will he drop out too?

Gingrich meets with voters in Miami (video)

USA TodayMiami

Gingrich is practically begging for votes now. His speech on his newer videos seem like he was pleading with the people to please vote for him, he seems very desperate. He also told the people of Miami to ask his fellow candidates questions. He especially challenged Romney records, he wants romney to show all his facts. Gingrich also told the people of Miami to question them on their facts of immigration and deporting rules. Gingrich says that fellow candidates wish to deport grand parents and great grandparents without a care in the world. He says he fellow candidates wish to break up happy families. Gingrich also asked the people to ask his fellow candidates when they come to Miami about their lies and how they switch what they say with every different state they go too. Gingrich also goes on to make a joke that when they answer their nose might grow right in front of the Miami people

Liberty at Stake in this election

USA TodayMyrtle Beach, South Carolina

Presidential candidate Santorum talks about liberty in this video. Santorum said that government is becoming too big. The people are getting too small in the eyes of the government. He believes that the government controls our life from morning to night and that the govenrment doesnt believe that the people are capable of taking care of themselves. Santorum believes that Obama's healthcare is the straw that broke the camels back. Santorum goes on to say that the a big factor of why he is running for president and why he is still sticking it out is because of Obama. He believes if Obama wins a reelection our country is in for a big surprise. He believes that Obama is taking away from our government and how our founding father have set up our government.

Huntsman to quit GOP race(video)

USA TodayJanuary 15, 2012

As of yesterday Utah governor Jon Huntsman dropped out of the GOP race. But he will officially state this on Monday. He had come up 3rd and 5th and his previous caucus polls today and he feels he will not have a chance in the election going further. Jon could not believe he pulled out all of his stops in New Hampshire and still came up short in third place. Jon felt that he put a great deal of his resources into New Hampshire and if he could win anywhere it would have been there. But again, he was not successful. So when they travel to South Carolina while there he will endorse Mitt romney in public at the caucus.

Santorum and Gingrich Pounce on Romney(video)

Wall Street JournalJanuary 8, 2012

At the New Hampshire Republican presidential debate on Saturday Rick Santorum, and Newt Gingrich criticized Republican front-runner Mitt Romney over his business experience. In the debate Santorum and ginrich both teamed upduring this debate and said that romney has little business experience and that America will be in trouble if he is leading our country. They believe Romney is not the right one to have America's life in his hands. They say he has yet to really do anything important business wise and he is not ready to take on such a "business venture" like this one. He also makes money by putting people out ofbusiness and that is exactly the opposite of what America need. If anything America needs for jobs, better leadership and people who care and will fight for whats best for America.

Republicans face off on the economy in N.H. (video)

Debate in Hanover,  New Hampshire at Dartmouth College
Washington Post

The overall debate was about the economy and who should actually be taking the blame for the downfall of the economy. All of the candidates pointed fingers to Washington and none other than Obama himself as being the cause for our horrible economy. Also pointing some blame to the Federal Reserve and  government in general. They say Obama is causing a decline in the economy instead of a increase, he also has too many regulations. Romey goes on to say“I have had the experience in my life of taking on some tough problems,” Romney said. “And I must admit that simple answers are always very helpful but oftentimes inadequate. And in my view, to get this economy going again, we’re going to have to deal with more than just tax policy and just energy policy, even though both of those are part of my plan”.Other candidates were very quite this debate but Rick Perry was especially quite and offered no specifics on his ideas on the economy and his energy plan he talks so much about.  The overall setting of the debate was intimate and a round table discussion between the candidates. With Romney being the front runner of the debate as of now he was the target of the night. But he was very confident and cool during the debate, he took what was dished out and rolled with the punches. He answered every question very politically correct not only from his fellow candidates but also from the moderators.

Gingrich to Romney: Drop the "pious baloney"

By: Lucy Madison

Sunday morning a Republican debate was held and right off the bat Gingrich came swinging at Romney. The reason Gingrich says for attacking Romney is "pious baloney" regarding his motives for running for office and his political history. Gingrich attacked Romney the whole debate from his previous running of senator and his dropping out. Also, going as far to say that Romney should not win GOP because he and Obama have too many similar views. Gingrich believes that if someone is to win against Obama they need to be completely different. In his exact words "The fact is, President Obama is going to have a very hard re-election effort. But I do think the bigger the contrast, the bolder ideas, the clearer the choice, the harder it is for that billion-dollar campaign to smear his way back into office," Gingrich said. "I think he will have a very hard time getting re- elected -- getting elected."
romney:"citizenship has always been on my mind" and that he's not running for president to "pay a mortgage" but out of civic duty. Gingrich also says that Romney is only running not because he cares about the people of America but because he is looking to further is career nd looking for a way to pay his mortgage. In response to Gingrich, Romney states  "I happened to see my dad run for governor when he was 54-years-old. He had good advice to me. He said, Mitt, never get involved in politics if you have to win an election to pay a mortgage. If you find yourself in a position where you can serve, well you ought to have a responsibility to do so, if you think you can make a difference." During the debate when Gingrich was not going off, Santorum was trying to put his two cents in. Santorum believes that Romney is not a good front runner for the GOP because he never finishes anything he starts. Santorum says that he is the best candidate to run for "the conservative principles". Santorum says the only thing Romney is good at , is to "bail out" and "run to the left of Ted Kennedy". Lets see how Romney can spin all the negative press he is getting before the New Hampshire caucus.

Santorum, Romney challenged on gay rights in debate

The two front runners of the Iowa Caucus were questioned on their views of Gay rights. Romney says "I think the gay community needs more support from the Republican party,"and "But if people are looking for someone who will discriminate against gays... or say they don't have full rights in this country, they won't find that from me," he said. . Romeny goes further to state that he has also hired people of various sexual orientation because what they do in thier spare time does not matter as long as it does not interfer with his work. Only thing Romeny does not think is okay is that same-sex marriage is not okay ever. Santorum was asked if he supported gay rights he said "All Americans should he treated equally and have equal opportunity. Romney and Santorum both are bascially supporting gay rights in one way or another. In my opinion I would have thought that neither of the republican front runners would have supported gay rights. One side of me believes that they are only being "okay" with gay people because they want all the votes they can get. But on the other hand they might lose some of the republican conservatives who got them to the place they are now. So at the New Hampshire caucus we will see if them saying this will hurt or help them.

Gingrich Steps Up Attacks in N.H.

The Wall Street JournalThe Washington Wire
By Douglas Belkin
January 5, 2012 2:55 pm

Newt Gingrich thought he should add a twist to his campaign speech this morning by attacking President Obama! Gingrich throws a jab at the president because he said Obama is not abiding by the constitution. Gingrich says that Obama is making decisions and not even consulting the senators. Obama met with National Labor Relations Board and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau which was wrong in Gingrich's eyes without consulting another party. Gingrich even went further to say that “If the president can walk across the U.S. Constitution and ignore the Senate, you have an imperial presidency,” and that He is paying off his union allies. This has nothing to do with good government and everything to do with re-election.” I believe Gingrich no he has no chance of winning this election so he is trying to throw dirt on everyone else's campaign since he is unhappy. This also does not make him look like a good candidate because a week or so earlier in the race when his name was being thrown in the dirty that was something that he said he was above. Also, during this speech Gingrich said he needs to be the Republican candidate to go against Obama because he is the only one who can beat the president in a debate. Gingrich also is taking his turn to throw dirt on Romney's name. Gingrich is not in the position to come at Romney when he did not even place before third place. Gingrich says romney is a " Massachusetts moderate who regularly caved in to liberal interests". Also, you can tell Gingrich is a flip flopper. When Santorum came in second Gingrich gave him praise, but Thursday he said Santorum is beneath him as far as experience. Gingrich went from the front runner to being desperate.

Romney, Santorum on top as GOP race shifts to New Hampshire

By the CNN Wire Staff (John King)

This article talked about the overall results in the Iowa caucus last night. Romney took the win last night with 8 votes over Santorum. Ron Paul ended up coming in thrid place while Gingrich trailed behind at fourth place. Then last but not least Bachmann snails behind in fifth place. As a result of this caucus, a great deal has changed for the GOP. Bachmann announced that she will not venture on to New Hampshire because she was counting on the votes from Iowa. she believes that her hometown has spoken and she will listen and not continue on and embarrass herself any further. Also, Romney gained the support of his old rival McCain. McCain believes that Romney is the right leader America need to but us back in history a noble force. Perry also announced via twitter that he would stay in the race and continue to New Hampshire and South Carolina. Santorum also shares with CNN that be is a little behind the ball compared to Romney. He believes this because Romney has spent a great deal of money and time in New Hampshire, but he is reaady for the challenge. Last but not least Gingrich is on a rampage for Romney, saying that he spent a great deal of money for negative ads against him, so from now on Gingrich is on a war path. But until next time for our New Hampshire caucus.
